Is the tough economy making it tough to take muskie trips, buy baits ect.

Normally less time on the water = less fish.

Anon,

Don't feel bad about having to push the new boat back a year. Mine just got pushed back 8 years. You see, I like you feel like I'm working harder than ever, yet have less to show for it. Therefore I have made the decision to go back to college and get a my degree as a pharmacist. (A good friend has his doctorate in pharmancy and talked me into doing this.) Then not only will I have a job that is in high demand and one that I can feel good about, but I'll have the cash to buy the boat that I want as opposed to the one I can afford. Two years till my son graduates high school, then 6 years of school for me. I'll be 48 when I graduate. Until then, it's scrimp and save and enjoy what I have.

As far as the attacks of 9/11/01. They affected me far more emotionally than financially. (I couldn't afford much before the attacks.)

Muskies to all.....Pat

Good for you, Pat. Always like to see folks advance their education.
In this day and age, that's more important than ever. I didn't go to college, in my time you could still get by pretty well without it, although it still would have been much better to have had that shingle. Both of my sons stuck it out and received their college educations and are doing quite well due to it. I like to remind them that whatever they get in this life, they'll get it the old fashioned way, they've earned it.

Took a major cut meself, but w/in a yr. or 2 things should pick up, I'm grateful to have a smart wife...one thing you can't buy is peace of mind or time, + I now have both. The attack on 9-11-02 served to remind me just how fragile life is + how quickly it can be taken, + the importance of being ready in the event something happens to you. All the $$$$$$$$ in the world can't buy a life back, nor can it be taken w/ you...petty worries now take a back seat to what is really important![::)]

Only the weather! This Spring, lots of rain, storm after storm, cold fronts every weekend, high & muddy conditions. Then, boom. 90+ degree days and a dry spell as bad as any in recent memory. Quite different than Mn. and Wis., for sure! Looking forward to some good fishing at Cass Lake. m[]

Sure, 9-11 has impacted my life. Emotionally and financially.
When your customers are not buying your product, it makes it tough on your paycheck!

I have cancelled numerous trips but continue to fish as much as I have in previous years - just on Metro lakes.

I am looking at a new boat which is crazy considering I just one last year!
I can get the boat, but will have more trips cancelled until the customers start buying again!

I see future trips planned in 6 months, more gear, equipment, and that new Boat!

CYA

PS: I am thankful to be employed! That's where we should be grateful!

In my field we depend on tax money to provide healthcare to the poor/unisured who are challenged with serious mental illness and/or developmental disability. For a variety of reasons, there's lots more demand for services but less money to pay for those services. "Managed care" is another way to say "rationed care", and there's less and less available to some of the most fragile folks in our communities. That means families struggle more and our jails are increasingly filled with people who are not criminals. Politicians can try to blame 9/11 for the national and state deficits, but in reality the problem lies mostly with poor fiscal policy - tax cuts that benefit the wealthy; allowing for-profit HMO's to take billions in profits that otherwise could pay for actual services; profiteering pharmaceutical companies, etc. There's a lot of very greedy people out there, and they seem to be running the show these days. In this context, they, especially many of our elected officials, use 9/11 as an excuse. Sad state of affairs, but, Bob Marley would say we can and will turn it all around if we only keep working toward a better world. Right? You bet.

Sure 9/11 made me lose a few dates last year as few had to cancel, it may of even stoped a few more from coming up this year but overall it had been a drop in the bucket and we have to learn to live with it. Money is just cash and when I think about the ones that lost loved ones in the event no matter what the economy does they will never return but we will make up for it later I am sure.

God bless everyone.
