Posts: 14 | Hello, I'm pretty new to Musky fishing, and living in Texas does'nt help with gaining experience. I have a few baits that need tuned up. Do you just use a split ring to replace hooks that are connected directly to the shaft? Will this effect the action? If not, how do you go about doing this? Also, how do you replace the blades? One of the baits in question is a bucher bigfoot. Thanks in advance.

Posts: 41 Location: Wheaton, MN | Split ring and shrink wrap, It shouldn't hurt it at all, most likley it will make it even better. Edited by jlb66 5/23/2010 8:05 AM

Posts: 41 Location: Wheaton, MN | Never replaced blades before. I've tried but did not succeed. I now throw a bucktail that you can change blades out via split ring giving you unlimted combinations. But never changed blades on a fixed shaft bucktail. Edited by jlb66 5/23/2010 9:19 PM

Posts: 646 Location: In a shack in the woods | You have to reshaft it. Cut the shaft and transfer everything onto a new one. You can pm and I will explain it in more detail.

Posts: 388 | The front hook is split ringed. The back hook can be cut off at the hook eye itself as opposed to the shaft wire if you want to avoid replacing the shaft. Cut off at the hook eye and replace with new on a split ring. Slide some shrink tube over the hook shank before you ring it on, then shrink the tube to keep it straight off the back of the lure. I am not a big fan of the middle hook because the flashabou tends to tangle up into the hook. I use only a back hook.

Shrink wrap the shank of the hook (push it down over the area where the treble meet). This will help keep the flashabou from getting hung up. Works like a charm
