I'm looking for a rod for throwing mags but also pounders. Currently I have a 8' 6" st.croix extra heavy and it throws mags great but I feel its a little light for pounders. Does anyone have any recommendations for under 200 bucks. I was looking at at the MI super mag rod so far..

the M.I. rod you mentioned will work perfectly

another one I've used and liked for pounders is the St..Croix 7'9"XXX

There's a lil' buzz over the new Okuma rods as well, they just recently hit stores....

The Tooth Tamer XXX Jawbreaker is a great rod for Pounders. In addition, it throws Mag-Dawgs all day long with little effort. I believe the Jawbreaker is priced around $149.99

I'll second brandon on the Tooth Tamer XXX for the pounders. Never any worries with that rig for me.

The reason I'd go with a St.Croix: (besides being top quality)

The have the best warranty/exchange program in the biz, click the link to see for yourself.

Tooth Tamer has a lifetime warranty and they are available at Rollies, Ross's sport in Phillips, Some stores in Hayward also.
The Jaw breaker will throw baits as heavy as they come.
