Just had new carbs put on as the motor had carbs for a 75 hp 4 stroke which were installed from the factory. Again covered under warranty. Got the boat back from the shop yesterday and they said it started right up with no problems. I have not put it back in the water to test it yet let alone load it up to fish and find out that it does not start again.

Didn't the dealer just tell you he repaired the motor, and it started right up?

Try it, then post if your problem was corrected.

No, I took it to the dealer and he said it fired right up and could not find any problems. I had the motor at the same dealer in the spring and that is when the carbs were changed. Motor started fine after the carbs were changed but now it starts up and then quits after about 20 seconds and won't start again. I have not named the dealer where the boat was purchased nor have I named the last two dealers where the boat was worked on so don't get the impression that I am ripping on the dealer/mechanic. I am trying to find out if anyone else has had these problems or am I stuck with a problem motor. I just want to fish!!!!

So it started fine at the dealership.

I sent you a PM, hope I can help.

Got it Steve, Thanks.
I did not mean to sound like I was bashing Mercury, just trying to figure this out and see if anyone else has had this kind of problem. Have ran Mercury motors all my life save for the one Johnson and a Mariner tossed in there. Pretty frustrating and to top it off, I took time off work last week to fish with my boys. Oh well, showed them that Dad knows some of those naughty words too!

Ken, there was a time with my old rig with a 90HP carb'd motor where I couldn't get it to start. I had it trimmed up too high. Carb float position is what I thought had happened. Maybe this is what you are experiencing, perhaps not. Mike

You may be right! I changed the plugs on the motor just for the fun of it and took it out on Friday. Started right up. Seemed to have a strong gasoline smell and you could see a gas film on the water. Seemed to idle a little rough also but did start and run. Think I will take it back in and have the carbs looked at for leaks and maybe adjustment.
