Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | It has been a 9 year journey. This is not for the guides and other folks who fish dozens of times a year for muskies. This is for those who fish a handful of times a year and keep plugging away because they love the challenge and inevitable reward... no matter what size the fish is. My vacations are about family time. And yet, they make sure Dad has time to go fish for the elusive musky because they understand the happiness it brings me even when I don't score. Well, this year I woke them up at 1am to share this video. Thanks to Terry (Ace) Sjoberg in Pike Bay and Jeremy Johnson at Whispering Winds for your friendship and help over the last 9 years. Last Wednesday was payday! I hope the smiles tell the whole story in context. (p.s. Mikie and Mauser... I told you they were in the weeds! heh heh | ||

| It says it was released and clearly you would prefer to get them back in the water quicker...but after a 9 year drought the guy was excited. | |||

| beautiful fish, Steve. you worked hard for it and the excitement shines through. enjoy it! we saw you out there from time to time (white boat, right?) while we were up there. i'm sure you (and everyone else reading this) has seen some of the discussion posted and removed about the time the fish spent out of the water. first, discussion about release practices is valuable and important, and something we encourage here on the site. on the other hand, MuskieFirst doesn't and won't leave up any posts that specifically target someone in a negative way. let me say a few words about it, and then put this to bed. for many of us here who are dedicated and enthusiastic about both muskie fishing and about successfully releasing fish, it's important to get the fish out of the water, take a couple pictures if wanted, and then back in the water quickly. thank you for releasing the fish; hopefully she revived once back in the water and is there for someone to catch again in the future. while the video above clearly shows an angler enjoying the moment, in my opinion and the opinion of many others, it also demonstrates somewhat unnecessary time-out-of-water for the fish. it has to breathe to live, and it can only do that if it's back in the water as soon as possible. this feedback isn't meant to ruin your moment - enjoy it because you worked hard for it, but rather offered up in the hopes of improving everyone's experience and practices in the future. when i've got a fish out of the net, my goal is 45 seconds max (30 seconds is even better) before getting her back in the water. this usually means 1 or 2 pics in each of 2 positions with the fish and then back she goes. again, great catch and thanks for releasing a real trophy. | |||
