Posts: 35 | I have been looking at used boats these last few weeks as I can not afford a new boat. I just found someone who is selling a 17.5 Cherokee ranger. It is a Tiller model which has a 75 Mercury oil injected Tiller Main Motor and a four stroke suzuki 9.9 kicker next to it. it is a nice open boat with alot of storage and nice size rod locker But I forgot to measure it. My Question is I am wondering if a 75 Tiller will be hard to control and steer at high speeds, Max motor on this boat is a 75. I am just wondering if any of you guys have a large tiller and could tell me if it is hard on your arm. I am just afraid it may be too much to handle, as I have always had a steering wheel on a side console. Any Pros or cons on a 75 Tiller.... any help would be be appreciated THANKS Mikey

I had a '99 Cherokee 237T with the 75 Mercury. Bought it new and sold it this past spring to get a Tuffy 1890. In those 8 years of use I found it to be a great boat. I fish Mille Lacs a ton and it worked quite well. It handled fantastic with the exception of heavy waves....3' plus. The torque steer on the arm could get tough but that was Mille Lacs waves. Any other type of conditions it handled great.

Made for smaller tillers and a lot cheaper than the powered hydrolic system they sell for larger tillers. Still not cheap, but a definate possibility if you find the torque to be too much. Good luck.
