| Someone sent me a Hellhound to paint. Am I going to run into problems shooting it with Auto Air? Will the base coat sealer work on ABS or will I need to use a different primer?

Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | I've used kilz as a primer for everything. AutoAir sticks to it nice. The whole deal of repaints is to experiment. Next year, I'm also offering e-tex as another option for clear. |

Location: Freedom, WI | If you have done Mollys, Triple Ds they are made out of the same stuff and I use autoair primer and the autoair paint sticks ok for me. I have done only about a dozen (including hellhounds) though. |

| I have painted about 500+ Hell Hounds as well as Trip D's
The best way to refinish is to sand down the orig Paint and primer as you would with anything else plastic. If you are painting blanks you must clean with a quality wax and grease remover. I always scuff or sand prior to the primer and skuff or sand the primer as well. I use automotive urathane primer/sealer on blanks as well as sand downs. I havent used the auto air primer i have used the basecotewhite and it seemed to work just fine. You must heat set all auto air paints as this is the only way they dry.
one way to test your primers adheasion is to apply primer heat set and do a test scrape. if the primer flakes off it wont hold if it scratches and wont flake off youll be fine. just sand down the scrape re primer and your ready to go.
another thing to remember. the top cote just protects the paint. it has nothing to do with the primer holding the entire paint job to the lure.
