| In you opinion? How long should a bait last before you can honestly say.. its done its job, caught me muskies and now I should buy another one and catch more.
A bucktail?
A Crankbait?
A Topwater?
A Jerbait?
How long do you expect them to last and how many fish does a bait have to catch before you think its paid for. |

| Easy answer for me, one fish on a bait is satisfactory in that we all have so many that do not seem to catch any. If I could honestly say that I caught 1 legal Muskie on each of my lures I could die a happy man. LOL
More seriously however, I have an area in my tackle assortment that holds only Tournament lures. I use these only when the money is on the line. They are not even along in the boat on a normal day lest temptation win me over. This group of lures is small but deadly. None have been retired at this time. Some have been lost, some have been broken, but as long as they work I keep on catching fish with them. I had a good year with one new lure this season and it also now resides in the revered tournament pile. Hope to add another one or two into this elite group this coming season. Not really an answer but it is the way it works for me.

| I think a bucktail should last at least 4 muskies, maybe longer as it depends on how much damage the fish do to the hair.Top water should last a life time, the plastic ones anyway.Jerk baits,I would guess at least 5 muskies.Cranks, that depends on if I am trolling LOTW and smashingh into rocks, then I am pleased if they survive a week! Other wise 10 fish,I really don't know.Of course these are just some guesses,I hope somebody can give some sceintific info.Good Luck,Paul |

| I will give my opinion here..for what ever that is worth.[]
A topwater should last 4 to 5 fish.. Depending on the size.(Bait wont perform well.. often the blades are bent or fall off.
A bucktail should last 3 fish...Depending on the size...Hair will start falling out from being chewed on..clevis will break, or hooks need replacement.
A Crankbait should last 4 to 5 fish...Depending on the size and what structure you hit with it...Lip will become thin if you run it threw rocks.. Clear coated cranks will crack after 4 to 5 muskies and 20 pike.
A Jerkbait should last 8 to 10 fish...Depending on the size... Pike will eat the clear coating off with thier sharp teeth in time.
:Depending on the size means a fish over 45,, subtract a fish or two.[;)]
:If you take care of them and keep them out of the sun, warm tackle boxes and out of the mouths of nasty pike.. ADD 2 to 3 muskies. |

| I have a few of the Original Depthraiders (Rattleless) that I have had for years, These cranks have caught Muskie, Walleye, Salmon, Bass, Northern and a least one suicidle crappie (Foul Hooked on side of face).
These baits are showing thier age but keep catching fish so I will keep tossing them

| long enough so when I finally get sick of it I can peddle it to one of you suckers at a swap meet |

| crankbait: forever if I don't loose it
jerkbait: until it's too damaged to use and then I build myself a new one unless it's a super-jerkbait that kicks butt big time with the pike!
bucktail: don't know, never took a pike on it
surface lure: same as for the crankbait |
