Posts: 1245 Location: Madtown, WI | Waubesa is a good bet. weeds and shallow if the weather is warming. Twitch baits, small jerkbaits and a bucktail or two works. Change it up and let the fish tell you what they want. I have gone the WHOLE gamit on the opener in Madison from surface baits to husky jerks, and caught fish on all of them,...depends on the weather. North end of waubesa is a good place to start, lots of shallow weeds. Good luck! I will bet out there. Cory

Posts: 1245 Location: Madtown, WI | monona can be tough early on. There are fish in there, and I bet if someone put some time into a suspended bite you would find one. Look for ANY green weeds. The west side of the lake is where I would focus your time. Depending on the weather and time in May (early or late) I would stick with twitch baits, jerk baits...and a bucktail/spinnerbait. Good Luck.. Oh by the way...Went over to the hot water discharge at lunch on monona. Water was VERY murky...saw about 5 or 6 muskies...not one of them UNDER 40 inches...biggest was a LONG 50-52 incher...one quite a bit thicker was about 47-48. Saw about half a dozen walleyes and not one of them was small...biggest was pushing 30 inches...Hard to see at times though in the murky water....No big fish in the Madison Chain... Cory

Posts: 167 Location: IL | Muskee Mike, if you want to fish Madison during the week go on Wingra. Not near as many boats. Mepps#5 and surfacebaits right off the bat. The water warms real fast early. Then go over on Monona in early June with twichbaits.(perch might work)

| Waubesa - shallow 'dog, bucktail, twitchbait. Work over the green weeds, find the warmest water. | |||
