Posts: 358 Location: Vilas County, WI | I'm up in Vilas County and was out Monday (10/20) and had water temps of 54/55 on two larger, deep, clear lakes. I have some locals telling me turnover already happened on some lakes; other reports saying it should kick off by this weekend. I am supposed to take some buddies out fishing this weekend, however with work I can't get out again before that. What's everyone been seeing in the Oneida/Vilas areas? This has been a really warm fall. During a normal year turnover would have been 2 weeks ago. Everything is late this year. Thanks!

| Temps on the shallow chain I live on in Oneida were closer to 60 this weekend. We have a crew that takes out each other's docks/lifts and everyone remarked on how warm the water was. But, cooler nights should be dropping it. | |||

| Just saw a post from Rob Manthei who guides on the St. Germain lakes and he said turnover is just about done there. This time of the year, he is out musky fishing every day with clients. so he has a good idea of what is happening. | |||

Posts: 695 Location: Livin on a Prayer. | I fished 3 large lakes up there on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday the 23rd, and all 3 had not turned yet. Temps of 56 and 54, and wind, dropping each day. Nice cool nights should get it done this weekend. Take care, good luck.

Posts: 8842 | Always interesting to see when lakes are turning now compared to when I started paying attention to such things back in the day. We'd usually be breaking ice at the landings in N/WI by now.

Posts: 1598 Location: Brighton CO. | We fished four days on two lakes, first day no Muskie action, the guide and I each got small Pike on lures. Day two different Lake no real Muskie action except for a couple nervous Suckers. Day three back to the same lake as day two I missed a good sized Muskie that picked up a Sucker twice (it had the whole thing going by bite marks) there was talk of my skirt getting in the way of the hook set. A hour in a half later got a 40" Tiger. No more action. Last day back to the first lake, My friends turn for the Sucker a Muskie stole a Sucker off the rig and two times a smaller fish tail grabbed the Sucker and was off. I was hooked up with nice sized fish on a Bondy but got off. A lot of wind and slower fishing but I should have gotten more then one fish.

Posts: 358 Location: Vilas County, WI | Thank you for the all the reports. We did get out there and it was slow. Friday we had water temps of 51/52 on a deep clear lake. Not convinced it had turned yet, we then switched our focus Saturday and Sunday to lakes that weren't affected by turnover. Those two lakes were smaller and shallower and had water temps 50/51. Friday, one rap on a mag dawg, nothing on meat. Saturday, one tail grab on a swimmin dawg, nothing on meat. Sunday, nothing casting but we went one for two on sucker grabs. Got a 37.5". We had about 23 hours total on the water over those three days, three different lakes in the BJ/MW areas, similar results.
