Posts: 183 | What's the best week to go to Lake of the Woods in these two months? Probably looking at the second half of July or anytime in August and staying near Miles Bay. I'd be mostly focused on walleyes with up to maybe half time spent on muskies. I'm thinking about the second week in August since I've heard the algae bloom gets bad towards September, but looking for some additional opinions. I've previously gone in June but that's not happening this year. I'll bring a boat with spotlock & mapping and likely rent at a lodge w/ trolling motors & a map for the rest of the group. Thanks.

Posts: 580 | Seriously, I wouldn't think too hard about this. Late July through Aug is generally a good timeframe with mid-summer patterns well established. Any of these weeks might be better or worse than another from year-to-year; it will basically depend upon prevailing weather conditions. Edited by Matt DeVos 1/1/2024 9:57 PM

Location: Contrarian Island | The farther you get into Aug there is generally less pressure but the chances of a cold front go up and that can be tougher fishing.

Posts: 2016 | To the original poster, every response is correct, one thing you said would personally sway my decision, If you are truly going to spend half your time walleye fishing Id pick mid-July. Hope you get a week of dead flat and sunny and catch 20 walleye an hour with some really jumbos mixed in!
