Posts: 7037 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Stupid story, but I need a really long transom saver for the new engine. Any suggestions?

Posts: 135 | Stop using one and get a motor lock device instead. You don't need to "save" your transom on modern boats by transferring energy to the trailer. So, the device needs to secure your motor in place against bounce and flop. I use the Pro Rule version paired with centering clips, but there are lots of options. Way easier to put on and off each time, and very effective. Most major brands are coming with these now rather than a traditional transom saver. https://www.prorule.com/ http://motormateusa.com/ http://www.m-ywedge.com/ http://lock-n-haul.com/

Posts: 1209 | I have used other models and got one of these with a new to me boat. Love it. Got a new boat came factory with a different one. The factory option was to light, and actually can scrape the Finnish off the lower unit since the LU was so thin. This isn't the exact model I use but it longer https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001AXGT7O/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid... I beat the LU end together some on the curb on both my models (to hold the motor straight). And I did trim the bottom side of the trailer roller so that it wouldn't scrape on the ground at the driveway etc... Edited by Fishysam 3/8/2017 10:00 AM

Posts: 398 Location: WI | Check out the transom savers from Panther. I got 1 that has an adjustable length. To Glaucus: tell my friend who is getting the transom replaced on his Lund. His Verado 225 (boat is rated for 250HP) has bent the transom bad enough it needs to be replaced. And that's just from sitting in the garage without a transom saver. I would never have a boat without one. All those block things do is take the pressure off of the trim/tilt unit.

Posts: 3479 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I would second R code's assessment. I have had one of these since I purchased a boat in 99 that needed the long arm saver. This particular one (I bought mine from cabelas) is heavy steel and is adjustable to the length you need. Easy on, easy off as well... It's worth the cash for it. Steve

And that's just from sitting in the garage without a transom saver. Any transom that bends or breaks sitting still in the garage would have gone straight to hell running in rough water. That's a defect. Is Lund replacing it under warranty? If so, your example doesn't really apply to this situation and I'm just glad no one got hurt. The transom handles way more pounding and pressure and flexing from the motor in rough waves than it does running down the highway. But hey, if climbing under your motor every time you launch and load makes you feel better, carry on. Edited by Glaucus_ 3/9/2017 8:55 AM
