Location: Oak Island, MN | I need to purchase a musky sized spinning reel as a gift. I have to no clue what's out there. For the most part, price is not a object. Anyone have a recommendation as to a good spinning reel for musky fishing? Would prefer Shimano, but not limited to. |

Location: Illinois | IMO, a Shimano Stradic 4000 series would be a good choice if you wanted to go with shimano, has 20lbs of drag. A quantum Energy 40 series is another good option, has 19lbs of drag on current ones. Used the Quantum a decent amount, has held up great to big spinner baits, etc. |

Great choice, my dad (European) uses Stradic 4000 when visiting since he doesn't do baitcasters. Works great, only problem is that once in the while the drag alarm spring cracks and you have to replace it if you like to hear that sound |
