How about 'Rigger' so when he jumps up on you, you say 'Down Rigger, down Rigger!'

Or when he poops on the carpet you yell, "Out Rigger! Out Rigger!"

My first Lab was a female, named Max, for Black Max(Mercury Motor in the 80's) Wife wouldn't let me name a kid Max, so the dog got it.
My second was Relay. I'm an EE, so it fit.
My 3rd was Myndee. Not sure why.
My current Lab is Blue. My brohters dog is Black. Same basic age, so we have Black 'n Blue.

What motor ot boat do you have?

Merc(ury)
(evin)Rude
Suzi or Zooky(Suzuki)
Rice(yamaha)
Hondo(Honda)
(Crest)Liner
Lund
Ranger
Tuffy

My Wirehair was named Rainy after the lake. Lost him last week after 15 great years.
We have two German Wirehairs, one is named Cisco, and the other one is named after our favorite lake that my wife caught her first muskie on. I could tell you his name as well, but it would give away a really good sleeper lake. Lets just call him Lake X for the time being.

Funny thing about Cisco is that I had never heard of the "musician" that goes by the same name....he wrote the "thong song." Trying to explain why I named my dog Cisco to someone who says "oh like the rapper?" never seems to convince them that it is a baitfish for muskies. They never seem convinced....

How about Wide Glide...assuming the dog walks in a perfectly straight line no matter what you try.

My Year old Yellow Lab is RAIDER... a nod to my USMC days w/ India Co. Raiders of BLT 3/1 and a nod to a favorite Muskie Bait - the Top Raider.
My 8 yr old Golden Rtrvr is GUNNER - another nod to the USMC and my Hunting/Fishing Fixation...

Good Luck

First I suggest you consider Bill Cosby's first rule for kid names in his book "Fatherhood". That first rule being, you have to be able to yell the name loud and long (paraphrased). Try yelling "Ben". Ok, now try yelling "Bennie". "Frank" vs. "Franklin". Yell "Sam" if you can. We once owned a dog named Mike; try calling that out loud. So, a name you can yell well.

Second, use a name that has a "short" which allows you to better communicate with your dog. For example, you could name your dog "Pardy" 'cause he'll be yer partner while you're fishing. You'll quickly move to "Pard", except, you'll use "Pardy" when you're telling the dog to pay close attention what you are about to say next. Just like talking quiet and reasonable with any kid in the hood, except your dog is smarter than most kids in your neighborhood.

Last, don't call him Ranger. That's me plus a huge boat outfit. I don't deserve the recognition and they won't pay you a dime for using your dog as a living advertisement.

My suggestion is "Pardy" as short for "partner". Take your dog out enough and that will become his name for you.

I've always thought that "dammit" would be a perfect name for a dog. You're yelling it at them half the time anyway. "NO! dammit!" Hey, come here, dammit! Don't pee on that! DAMMIT!! DAMMIT, Come back here!! Sit down, dammit!

If you have two new pups wait a week to see which one is more energetic and is faster. Then name the fast one Turbo and the other Lag.

I named my lab cash because he and musky fishing both take a lot of it.

Other vote goes for Dammit or a version of it #*^@it... Easy to yell while being outside in your underwear at 2am... Only worry I would have of that is that your neighbors might start thinking you're related to Al Bundy and trying to get away from the wife in the bed...
