Head first, and you will find them in the belly with fins extended.

Sponge, you hit it on the head again.  That was my first thought.  But then I thought who am I to judge, if he cuts them open to see I guess that is his right if they are of legal size.  I'm not saying you do Firstsixfeet,(I'm quite sure you don't) I agree though, seems it would be difficult at best to get a catfish down your throat tail first with those fins extended in all directions.

Again, I have to agree with F6F, regardless of the prey species, I do believe a muskie will attack it at the front, and then turn and swallow the victim head first. No chewing involved here. BUT, my contention is that muskies don't hold their prey cross-wise in their mouths as often, or for as long a duration as we believe. I get this THOUGHT from watching the muskies I raised in a tank: even prey 25% of the muskies' size was swallowed nearly immediately. Granted with was in a fish tank, with smaller muskies, so obviously a different habitat and size range then we ar targeting.

The last musky I kept and cleaned (1971) had a 14" channel cat in the belly, swallowed head first.
