Posts: 4269 Location: Ashland WI | Ok, so I know the difference between "numbers" lakes and "trophy" lakes. Are there many "in between" lakes? Something that falls in the middle?

Posts: 4269 Location: Ashland WI | Flambeauski - 10/10/2014 2:25 PM 95% of the lakes in WI So even if the state ranks a lake "numbers" (A2), it still might not have the "numbers" of a different A2 lake, but could have a better chance at some larger fish? But still not large enough for the state to rank A1?

Posts: 4269 Location: Ashland WI | Hmm.. Interesting. Now to find a good "tweener" lake. I have only caught one fish over 40" (actually was 42") so I would not mind fishing some lakes with a decent chance at 40's but maybe not 50's. Does that sound reasonable?

Posts: 255 | Pick a lake with some level of reputation and learn it. Fish will start to show up, then time on the water helps the learning curve. Took me years of weekend fishing to learn some patterns, but then the fish got bigger and saw more, caught more. What part of the musky world are you hoping to target? I by no means am an expert, but I've loved fishin them for over 20 years.

I by no means am an expert, but I've loved fishin them for over 20 years. At this point, I am after upper 30's and lower 40's fish. Of course big fish would really be nice, but as of now, I am looking for a bit more action. Just ready to move on from my local numbers lakes where I can get into fish, but rarely over 33''-35". 25"-30" is much more common on the lakes I have been fishing.
