Posts: 688 Location: Northern IL | My youngest boy will report to boot camp in August but before he leaves he said he wanted to do a muskie trip. We thought there's no better place than the Detroit river in June! So as it goes my favorite fishing partner in the whole world was out, and Austin and his friend Ross were in... actually she is a great sport and encouraged us to proceed. Ross said his biggest to date was a 46", so our mission was to try and get him a bigger one which he accomplished with a 48", which also turned out to be the biggest of the week. My youngest's to date is a 52", he knew he may have a chance but it would be a long shot. When we arrived to the Wyandotte boat ramp on Saturday we were under a relatively stable weather pattern and it quickly showed up in the catches. Our numbers increased every day 12 being the best. The closer we got to the predicted cold front which came through on Wednesday the more active the fish got. When the front passed through we had 33 in the boat and 50 started to look like a real possibility. When we launched Thursday am. I told the boys today could be a tough one but as soon as we put the lures down at 7:58 am. we had 2 more in the boat by 8:05, we felt very lucky to get 7 that day, everything was caught in the am. The effects of the passing front showed up in the pm. As well as the following day where we only boated 2 muskies, a 42" and something smaller. On Saturday we needed to have a really good to hit our goal but came up short by 2. Ross also snagged into a 54" sturgeon which sent the clicker screaming, thought it may have caught fire. We also caught some walleyes, a couple of 29"s & 28's etc but they we're defiantly not in the area we fished in numbers. For about 10 years now the kids and I have been fishing the River and while every single trip has been a memorable one this one had a specail meaning way before we ever left the drive, fish or no fish but of course we were all very happy with the results. Posts: 114 Location: Kingston, Ontario | Awesome fish Jerry and a great trip and great times with your son! Well done! Think it was probably the moon phase that shut the fish down and kept you from getting to 50. | ||
