Used to use it and loved it. Can't hardly find it anywhere anymore. Was able to find it at Farm and Fleet for a while but haven't been able to for years. I think they stopped making it about 5 years ago. I could be wrong on that though.

I just bought some from Fleet Farm yesterday, I have never seen it there before. I bought some smaller diameter to try on one of my smaller baitcasters.

Ya know Derek, I might have to retract my original post. I may have been thinking about UltraMax. Now that I have pondered further, I think it was UltraMax and not Gorilla that I was using.

Sorry 'bout that.

Hooker,

I should have stopped at there factory too, I was only a few miles from there in October. It appears to be a good quality braid at a lower cost, I paid $8 for a 150 yard spool.

Don't forget there two gorilabraids now. There an old (not made any more) and this new gorilla tough. There not much old style around over 50 pound but the 20 to 30 is in good stock.I spooled a trolling and a casting rod this year with the new stuff.Too me it reminds me of Ultra max.the guys at the store said same thing.Only the gorila tough doesn't have the internal cord that utra max has.It woven tighter together.Haven't played with it yet.Line is thick,80 gorilla tough is alot thicker then 80# whiplash.Might be the trick when trying to cut down the amount of depth your trying to get out of your lure.Blummer

I, too, used to buy the old Gorilla line and loved it - as long as you used an adequate #-test (i.e. backlashing 30# test could break off; 65# test was much better)

Anyway, I'd forget about the old stuff since it's so hard to come by now - as others have already said. I was pretty excited to find the new Gorilla Tough line at the fishing show in Madison this past w/e. The price for 125yd spool of 80# was only $6.95 at the Wolf River Tackle booth.

The price seems almost too cheap when comparing it to the other super lines. I did some investigating this a.m. and found the following info online (http://www.berkley-fishing.com/new/story.cfm?WhatsNewId=104&Position=33). I called Berkley at the phone number on that site to learn more.

I'm told the new Gorilla Tough is made with a dacron base with some gell-spun line in it, too. Dacron is much less expensive to work with so that's why it's so much more affordable. This line has much better characteristics than the old-style dacron. It appears to be somewhat more bulky than the superlines I have been using in the same #-test. The Berkley rep confirmed this by stating that 80# Gorilla Tough is the thickness of 20# mono as compared to 80# SpiderLine that is the dia of 17# mono.

Oh, although the color as indicated on the website is camo green, it looks more white with just a small amt of green woven in. It looks like a very nice woven line. Untrained eyes (guys that don't fish) at work liked the look of the 80# test Gorilla Tough line over the same #-test Tuf-line.

On the back of the pkg it states the following bullet pts... "Compared to mono: half the diameter, twice the strength, long lasting, virtually no stretch. Compared to other braids: Tremendous value, sinks, easy on rod guides and reels."

For the price, I'm definitely willing to give it a try. Hopefully Berkley will be able to keep the price low and still sell some. It wouldn't surprise me if this line doesn't sell at this low price but would do better if it's price were to be a little higher. Some of us muskie guys are a little strange that way. I guess we'll see what happens.
