I had tons of follows recently on both phantom softails and standard phantoms, but struggled to convert on any sort of figure 8. What kind of 8 have you found success with for this style of bait?
Thanks- Michael

Have had the same issue in our boat to the point where the standing joke is if you don't see any fish throw a phantom and you get a follow... they don't hit but will follow. There have been 2 ways we have been able to convert these fish 1) throw a hellhound 2) dive into a early deep 8 like you would with a bucktail (stop gliding the lure).

guy's I wrote a article for drifter tackle about this such a thing.. there is a few things that can be done to make the fish commit to eating your offering at boat side.. as the article is more about the hellhound I actually use a lot of gliders.. I love them and as for the phantom I used to be labeled the phantom hoarder....bill

I have converted more weaving my figure 8 and stopping and twitching hard if they turn away. Same tactics have also been successful for me with warlocks and hellhounds. Give it a try, nothing to lose if the same old isn't working.

I tried using taps of the rod to continue the gliding action, which proved very ineffective. Sounds like a deep, traditional 8 is a better move. Thanks for the replies!

there are two videos i've watched on youtube about how to use a suick and long rods with glide baits. the suick video features a guy called flat lander who is showing you how to do a figure eight with one and the other video is how to use a long rod with a glide bait. Both videos have an excellent tip on figure eights that I use with phantoms too. you might have to play around with finding them on youtube. The video is better than I can explain but it works!

How are your hookup percentages with this style of baits?
