I do a bit of creek fishing from a boat here in Kentucky. Some places are as small as 20 feet across and some as large as 50 or 75. What rod length would you guys suggest for this?

There are also a lot of low hanging trees so I'm think the 9' rods may be a little long for the fishing I do. I'm thinking 7'6" or 8', but 8' may still be a stretch.

What kind of boat? St. Croix makes a 6'3" jerkbait rod (XH) that works nice in a jon boat. 7'6" MH or H would be nice for everything else.

I use an 8.5' swimbait rod from shore and from a canoe for bass and esox including wading and bushwacking into small lake and rivers. You have to cast side arm and at time just flip baits but that happens with any size rod.

If anything a longer rod allows to get more distance when casting at odd angles.

I fish creek all the time and I love my 8 footer for the creeks. Good for evey bait and still big enough for good 8s

We'll fish out of a ten foot tin boat on a small river from time to time and I have used my 7'6", 8' and 8'6".

I fish the same types on creeks that you do and i use anything from a 6' up too a 8' TI rod and have had no problems with either. Just watch out for over hanging trees and you will do fine..
