| How much weight do you put in a 8 inch jake style crank bait and where? |
| How about experimenting with it? make 4-5 baits and try different things. |

Location: Loves Park, IL | It really depends on the type of wood you are using. Some types are much more bouyant and require more weight, some require none. As, for placement, I usually place it in the middle to create the pivot point. But I have moved it both forward and backward with some success. You really need to experiment and just find out what's your own personal preference.
Good Luck,

| No real secret here---the bait will need some kind of belly weight for it to run correctly. I would say TRIAL and ERROR is the only method. I have made many cranks and usually make 3-4 of the same bodies and weight them differently--keep track of how they are weighted and head to the lake. They would all probably work--BUIT there will be a difference and go with what you like. DIFFERENT wood will also make a difference on weighting and also placement. Once you get it figured out it is fairly easy to replicate--sometimes same wood can have a different density so you have that to deal with--BUT--it's all good as that is part of the fun and task of building a good running lure. Have at it. |

| Thanks like the input . I built a few to see if I could do it , cut outs ,paint, clear coat, getting all that. I did not ralize how much weight it took to make them hang srtaight.Next will be the tuning since I live in central Il we have open water right now and shallow crappie it will be tough. But on the way back to ramp I will throw a few and see how they run. Will have a few pics another day,, thanks later. |
