Here is the scenario,a major cold front will be hitting LOTW this weekend,Saturday as a matter of fact and welcoming me to my usual BAD luck of muskie fishing this year.High temps on Friday will be 54,Saturday about 45 ansd Sunday a warm 38 with a low of 25 or so.Should I stick to my planned tactic of trolling known cisco spawning areas/places I have caught muskies in the past in the fall? Or should I try to find the needle in the haystack by going to deeper water? Casting is a consideration but what structure? ANY help will be GREATLY appreciated.I will post my daily catches/misadventures when I return.Did I mention I caught a cold today? [:knockout:] Thanks for ANY help and Good Luck to ALL,Paul

Paul....

Dude, have a great time and THINK POSITIVE...we need to get a you a more upbeat handle..

Remember we fished cold front conditions for two days on Cass and we stuck fish...[:)] [:)]

I'm by no means a LOTW gu'ru but that same front will be here too.. I will be throwing gliders that "hang" like Cobbs and Undertakers and Magic Makers. Give the "pause" a few extra seconds...let'em look at it.

I.e. swim/swim/swim - pause - tap/tap/tap (change up) pause - swim/swim/swim.

If they go deep chase them with Dawgs or big/lil' Joes.

Put it in their face and they will eat...this is fall!

Above all, keep a positive outlook...if you think you can, you will....[;)]

You get back home, there is a pig that gave us the slip on our favorite Augusta area lake last year.. I suggest we go put some hooks in her face, she ought to be 52+ this year...

Call me,

Mark

Paul:

On the contrary, I find that falling water temperatures at this time of year seems to stimulate the bite. The cooling water kills of algae, and the water starts to clear. The tullibees start to move shallower in preparation for the spawn. Cooling water also seems to send the muskies a signal that they had better start to feed as winter isn't far away. I've had great fishing under cold front conditions in the fall.

Trolling with Jakes should work, as well as casting traditional muskie holding areas, using traditional lures. Jerk baits (Suicks and Bobbbies are my favorites) and 10" Believers have worked for me over the years.

Generally I like to see falling water temps at this time of year, it is pretty much what fish expect. Cold fronts in the fall don't seem to have the disasterous effect they have in mid summer.

Find your baitfish and fish those areas with a SLOW moving jerkbait (glider style). When I mean slow I mean SLOW! Longer pauses in between twitches and look for the fish to hit the bait when the lure is not moving.

I second every post here and toss in the CREATURE on the breaks if you are seeing fish that won't eat.

I fished last weekend under cold front conditions on LOTW's and believe it or not, SPEED IS THE KEY! Now I am rather new to muskie fishing and still learning the spots on lotw's but I nailed one fish and lost two others speed trolling at 4 to 6 mph. Now another very experienced muskke angle fishing the same area of LOTW's that I was nailed 8 muskies ranging from 34 to 49 being the biggest.
Again the pattern was speed trolling the breaklines and ventering now and again into deeper water. We found that mag Rapalas, believers and super shad raps worked the best. I agree with Doug Johnson! Falling temps can be the best fishing. I don't know if he trolls fast though?
Can't wait untill 45 temps. Then 8 fish days and more are possible!!!
