| Hey Guys, will any of our muskies favorite baitfish be able to be caught by hook and line? And if so what would you guys use? I was thinking small small Mepps spinners. Thanks for any suggestions you may have. Heading to a area where no baitshops sell suckers and would luv a live option. Feel free to hit me at [email protected] |

Location: MN | A few years ago in Canada we fished for whitefish using a 3/4oz sinker with 18" snell and a peice of white gulp and caught all the whitefish we wanted. The spinner might work as well. |

Location: Ontario | In open water I've caught lots in August and September downrigging small Williams W40 and W60s, no2 Mepps Aglia Longs, x4 Flatfish and a few other baits. Watch them rise on the graph as the evening moves along, sun hits the trees, back down they go. They`re a fun fish to catch, very pugnacious and they hit hard, always have all three prongs of the treble stuck in their little tarpon-shaped mouth. Downrigging we get them up as high as about 29feet at dusk, by actual sundown they`re headed back down 50-70feet. No2 silver Aglia works great. Trolling or jigging them would likely be a lot more efficient than casting and retrieving. There are nights when you can fill the boat with them and once they`re gone, they`re gone. Same thru the ice, when the schools come thru, everyone can sit in a semi circle and someone has a fish on the whole time. I`ve seen schoools that measure city blocks in size. After trolling thru them your leader and rigging is plastered with meat and scales. |

| Something I learned from a friend who uses cisco's , keep them in a round bait pen so they can swim ... otherwise they're goners . I think they were netting them ?? Don't remember !?!?!? |

| you can get cisco with sabiki rigs. they are saltwater baitfish hair jigs. there tiny small hook jigs they work great.put a half oz weight on bottom and lower to depth after locating them with depth unit using small spinning rod. jig with short snaps. they are killer on ciscos . they sell them at saltwater sportsman and cabelas. the only problem is they have like 6 jigs with hooks on 1 rig which might be illegal in your state. |

| on Vermilion just find the Whitefish/Ciscos and cast their way with a Pounder or 2-Pounder and you will get a few , plus an occasional big muskie............... |
