Hi all. In 8days I am taking my son To moose lake Wisconsin, near Hayward, for the muskies Inc youth musky hunt. I am super excited to try and get him his first. Anyhow looking for information. I have researched the lake, but any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Moose is a numbers lake with fish that grow slow. Expect 32-38" fish but I'm sure there are some 40"+ in there as well.

I've only fished Moose in the summer so my comments are based on warmer water only, but....

Water is stained so I have done well with bucktails. I personally like baits that go in a straight line in stained water. I feel it's easier for the fish to track the bait down.

Also, can't emphasize enough how important figure 8s are at the boat. Gotta 8 every cast. The fish might be three feet behind the lure and you won't see him due to the low water clarity.

Places that receive wind and current are good spots as is the spot where the river comes in on the north end by the resort. Islands hold fish, too.

Beautiful area up there. Good luck!

One of my favorite lakes for first timers or getting the skunk out of the trip. We do well with blk/green bucktails and spinnerbaits. Moved some fish with gliders but no hook ups.

Dinger, I am one of the guides for the trip. The girls in our boat tripled in one day. Mepps #5 Black Fury's were the ticket, as well as Orange Bucher baby shallow raiders.

Location: Eau Claire,WI
Bright,BRIGHTER and BRIGHTEST Bucktails have worked for me. A Flame blade has outproduced every other color in my boat. Yellow, black perch, chartruse for the hair.Small doubles should also do ok...
