Posts: 402 Location: Eagle River, WI | Nail-knot. I bought the tool from rollie and helen's. It came with the instructions. Some guys have told me that you can do it without the tool but, I don't have that kind of talent.

Posts: 501 Location: Norway | I use a tube, as seen in the video: http://yankeedoodoo.blogspot.com/2009/11/how-to-tie-nail-knot.html The nailknot tool is a tad easier to use tho. Practice with some cheap line first or string of some kind. Michael

Posts: 388 | Nice! Always thought that the nail knot was for splicing two lines together. Never considered using it to make a loop. Thanks!

I tie 200# fluorocarbon leaders and use a perfection loop. Make the loop, put it over something (I use a smooth peg bolted into my work bench, a small dab of super glue on the knot and lean back pulling the knot tight. For pulling back, wrap the leader around something - ie. a hammer handle - to help give you a little extra force to cinch the knot down. I usually leave a long tag end at the swivel because when done right the tag end sticks out sideways and will act as a bit of a weed catcher.
