I have two rod lockers in my boat, I keep my bass rod and my 6'6" jerkbait rod in one.My other rods are too long to fit in either of them, so I want to make one into a bait box. I was wondering if anyone else has done this and if so what did you use to make the inserts to hang the lures on. I was thinking of trying to get some of the inserts that they put in the plano 7915's and cutting them to fit or making my own out of some kind of clear plastic. Anyone who may have done this and can offer ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to have it done by the Cass Lake outing in Sept. My boat is kind of small and I could use the room my tackle box is taking up.
[:p]

Thanks in advance

it's not clear, but it's strong, cheap and functional.... gutter downspouts! the white ones show baits well and work nicely- easy to assemble too with silicone or rivets. try em out, make a huge bait box at a looow price!

If you want clear you can always saw away at some plexiglass and make it like an insert from a plano box. Otherwise you can just use pvc.

The gitter downspouts work great!! I held them together with silicone - held like iron!

Good Luck!

I tried the gutter downspouts. I didn't care for them. They are not forgiving when you have a box that is 4.5 gutter spouts wide for example. What do you do with 1/2 a gutter? They tend to crack or tear in this type of application. You can go to Menards and get big sheets of solid color plastic and cut them on a table saw or if you have places in your boxes that are not square, use a jig saw.

I have built up one storage box by taking out the inserts in a Flambeau Maximizer box and then wedged a couple cheap plano boxes between them and the walls of the storage box. The plano boxes have my dawgs in them.

I put one row of 3" x 3" PVC sqaure down spout tubing in my rod locker. The stuff is cheap and you can get it at most hardware store's.
