| Been thinking of getting something a bit more forgiving, but hoping for some feedback on rods longer than 6'9" I thought a St. Croix PM80HF might fit the bill. or do you think a XH action is better suited. What's everbody throwing. |

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | I have been using the 8'6" Legend Tournament XHF a.k.a. the Big Dawg. and an 8' Premier HF. I really like the sweep and ease of bait movement with minimal effort. If you are leery of going 8+, St. Croix makes a 7'6" LT XHF called the Classic Jerk. It is a great rod for specific use. I personally would go with the 8'6", but thats me! |

Location: Eagan, MN | I've been using a Heavy Diamondback 8 footer for about 6 years now. Might not be the best choice in light of the quality issues they've been having now, though. Take a look at the Thorne Bros Heavy Predator... seems to have about the same action and power. |

Location: Oswego, IL | I use a 7" avid and an 8' compre. I feel I can get a good snap on a shorter rod to make the bait swing out about 3ft each way. I am going to try a longer rod this year, who knows..... |

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | If you were gonna run a Predator for Jerks, I'd run the XHF rather than the HF. The heavy is pretty parabolic on the retrieve. You'll get better action out of a jerk with the heavier action. |

Do you feel that you can use the "Big Dawg" as a n all purpose type rod? I am leaning to this one to use for the following, in no particular order...
Dawgs (all sizes)
10x10's
cranks
maybe some Suicks
75% of the time would be Dawgs and cranks of some type...

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | Definitely! Sounds like the perfect rod for what you need! It was my go to rod for the several seasons before it was dubbed the - Big Dawg. It was the rod my guide buddies and I went with before the Slingblade came out. Several of them have stayed with the XHF.
I still go to mine for dawgs mag or pounders - Bigger Cranks - and all my wooden jerks over 8". It makes working a lot of those baits easier because of the weight and the length.
I've probably got more XHF's in my arsenal than any other weight. |
