| New to musky fishing. I was thinking of going this coming weekend but I dont know if its a good time of year. Are musky spawng now? Do they feed when they are spawning? Any info will be appriciated. |

You don't mention where you are at, what the water temps are, how large the lake is, etc. Example, if you are in IL most likely they are post-spawn, if you in in central WI most have spawned, but a few may have not. If you are in Northern WI or MN, most likely are spawning or pre-spawn and if you are in Canada, most likely it pre-spawn. The size of the lake also makes a difference as well. If it is a huge lake they will spawn later than a smaller shallower lake in the same area. So you can see why folks are not jumping on here to help you out. They would have to guess and most likely would get it wrong.

| Ok I understand now. The lake is in central Ohio and is shallow. So I figure they have probally spawned by now. What about fishing during the spawn? Just curious about next year. |

Location: Yahara River Chain | I don't think you can get them to hit when they are in the spawning process. But the good this is that the entire population doesn't spawn at the same time. The trick is to find pre-spawn fish.
Last month I was in IA and we hit the lake while most were spawning. Lots of muskies we shallow and beat up. But in the middle of a spawning bay we were able to get a couple on minnow baits. You could tell those fish were pre-spawn as they were so clean - not a mark on them, unlike the ones we saw in the shallows. Using minnow baits with a slow jerking retrieve and lots of long pauses.

Location: lake x...where the hell is it? | a spawner WILL NOT eat anything, and i mean anything. and post spawn females can be very tight lip, i have been trying to get dozens of post spawn fish to eat for a week now. we have gotten a few to eat but not as many as we have seen. good luck! |

| Agreed - Saw 3 different pairs of fish last night - they would even look at a bait - 62 degree water in IA and these fish are still going at it???......hurry up and get it over with already  |
