anybody have any tips for river fishing for muskies? the river i am fishing is pretty dirty water and the water level is a little high. should go down to normal by next week (theres a tourney held next friday). it is also a fairly shallow river in this particular area.

The higher and faster the water the easier they can be to find. High clear water is the best but usually found in cold water conditions. High water+faster current means it tightens up the slack water areas. Muddy water when it's not really muddy can be quite the deterrent however. Try spinnerbaits when it's really muddy. Hope this helps.

There's a book by Dan Gapen called "River Predators" that talks about catching Muskies in rivers. I believe it is $8.95. It's located online and on the second page of his website. Here's the url: http://www.gapen.com/

I have a link about river muskies on my site. Go to "Musky Links" on my site. It is on that page. URL is below.

Treat current breaks like structure. Disturbances in the current from rocks, trees, plants, or the line between current from the river flow and backwater eddies are great places to start. Locations of feeder streams entering the main river is also a great place to try.
Rivers in general are easier to fish than lakes because the locations listed above tend to congregate the fish in more restricted areas. Rivers also tend not to be affected as much by cold fronts as lakes are, why, I don't know.
Good Luck![]

Tod? It's Todd, two d's. One d todd's are freaks and we do not associate.

As far as structure goes, anything that slows current or forms an eddie. Bridges, fronts and backs of riffles, rocks, trees, fronts and backs of islands, irregular shoreline in and out mudlinesand deep pools. Feeder creeks are very prime spots also.

Find the deepest holes and pound the shi! out of them and around them, usually where Mrs. Big is at
especially during "tough" days. Try fishing that thing at night as some of my best times on rivers have been during evening moon phases. High water is better than shallow. Hair, cranks, jerks, topwater
Try the switch back trick. Throw 5 casts with one bait and so on with the rest and start again. This
method works man! Take care and goodluck!
