| The way things are going around here (MN/WI), it looks like we will be facing cold water temps when the season opens in late May (WI) and early June (MN). My preference is generally to fish topwater (propbaits and walk the dog). I like the visual aspect of the strike.
I know that this isn't always the best way to generate the most strikes, but I'll usually throw top water for a healthy part of every outing just hoping for the big explosion(I'm the same way when bass fishing).
Is there any "magical" spring time temp below which topwaters are a waste of time? What are your experiences? Any coldwater/topwater fish tales to tell?

| Topwaters will work with cold temps, given some cloud cover. My only legal muskie this year came on a top water in February. |

| An acquaintence of mine is retired and lives on Crescent Lake in Oneida County, WI. Two years ago he caught three muskies in November on Tallywackers with water temperatures below 40!
What is the guideline as temperatures cool down? Slow your presentations down. What does that as well as Topwater?
If a fish will move any number of feet horizontally to get to a bait, it makes no sense at all that the same fish wouldn't go the same distance vertically for a bait! |

We are catching fish on top-water right now, temps are aroung 56. Was out on Monday and saw 7 fish taken on jack-pots![:0] |
