This evening while I was driving home from fishing, I thought I had seen my trolling motor prop spinning..I pulled over and stopped only to see it was off. About an hour later while in the process of putting my boat cover on I saw the motor go on....I jumped on the boat and tried the constant / momentary switch, it had no effect, I turned down the speed adjustment knob and the motor stopped..I left it thinking I will fix it today, but later on that eve I noticed the red Arrow was glowing, and when I checked the motor it was running at full speed and none of the switches either the speed control or the constant/ momentary switch did not effect the speed...I had to disconnect it from the batteries...It is a MOTORGUIDE 109 lb. 36 volt foot controll with built in transducer.........Any help would be appreciated....M&H

Posts: 282 Location: north west wisconsin | sounds like your switch has shorted out probably in the foot pedal thats where I would check first. Pull it apart and look for any corrosion. not familar with motorguide at all but thats what i would do

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | To be really honest with you, the PTSv are notorious for having problems. These are awesome motors when they work, but like I said, they are notorious for having problems. They usually can be fixed, but the problem is, they usually spend more time getting fixed than on the water. Also, if it's not two years or older you should still have warranty on the motor. But if I were you, I'd really look to get rid of the motor and get something else. i ran one of these trolling motors for a couple years and it was bombproof. i really liked it and i'd go right back to the updated version if i needed a 36v. (i'm running a 24v MG Wireless right now.) take it in to a certified service center and find out what's causing the issue (as someone noted, it sounds electrical); fixing this issue or replacing the foot pedal if necessary is going to be much more cost effective than replacing a very expensive and perfectly good trolling motor.

Thanks Guys I am having someone look at it tomorrow, This was on the Ranger Cherokee so I left it on..I really did not think it needed a 109 Lb. but I figured it was on here already so why change it. It is a very powerful motor and I was actually thinking of taking it off and downsizing it to a 72 lb thrust, Especially since this one almost put me in the water twice last week. I was just informed that this unit can be used as 36 or 24 volt... A friends neighbor said he has been running his 109 36 volt for 3 years now using 24 Volts, he said it seems to have the Power of a 72 to 80 lb trolling motor.. I never knew this could be done. Thanks M&H
