Anybody have anything good or bad to say about them?

I am looking at one for a new trolling boat I bought.

The motor I am looking for would be 90-135 Hp 4 stroke.

I want something good on gas, no 2 stroke oil consumption, very quiet, extremely reliable, used (good price).

The 90 4 stroke on my dad's boat has been a good motor. I think it's a 2000 or 2001. The only real problem happened when he forgot to put stabil in one winter, causing all sorts of problems. Always starts really well. One thing that I haven't figured out is why it has trouble on takeoff. If I go from idle and slam to full throttle, the motor dies. I imagine it's a fairly easy fix, but never worried about it.

I have the 2001 75hp model. No regrets about buying it. Good performance & mileage. The only time its hard to start is 1st start after winter storage. Solved that little problem by spraying ether starting fluid into the intake.

Ran a 2002 Mercury 115 4 banger for five years without a problem. Always started right up the first time out in March. Quiet, clean and great of gas. Use this motor a lot for spring trolling for Walleyes on Green Bay and it performed flawlessly. Really did a great job. Highly suggest this motor.

Its Yammy engine.
It's same block as the 115 if I remember correctly, but don't quote me.
I have the 115 similar vintage and have been very happy with it.

I have the 2000 Merc. 4 stroke 75 hp. It's a Yammy power head as mentioned, I am not sure what year that changed. The 75 hp and the 90 hp are basically the same engine. I think the 115 is different as I believe it's a heavier engine, but don't quote me on that.

To answer your question, it's been a great engine for me. It runs on fumes and is quiet and dependable. As mentioned though, run some carb cleaner through it occasionally, always have fresh gas in it, and drain the carbs in the fall. I also use Stabil. If you don't pay attention to the gas, the carbs will gum up and it will cost you about $450 to get them cleaned. I drain my boat fuel tank in the fall and put the gas in my truck. I start out with fresh gas each spring.

Hiya,

That might be as little as a carbeurator adjustment if it has carbs (with that year, I believe it will...but unsure). If it dies, the motor is either getting too much fuel or not enough. The fuel air mixture would need to be adjusted, but with multiple carbs, they need to be adjusted the same amount. That should take care of it...
