Ok with the popularity of the Cowgirls being off the charts and the mass of manufacturers making a lure or lures with this setup what keeps you coming back to the Mayhem product? They seem to be the most expensive, or right up there anyway. Isn't a DC-10 just as good? Figure 8? Mojo, and so on, there are lots of names. I'm just curious because I have some from several different makers and don't see a difference, but I don't get to fish as much as alot of you guys so I'm asking if I am missing something.

In my opinion, just about any double 10 style bait will catch fish. It is the blades and not the tail material that does the catching. I personally use the Figure 8 brand baits, because they are quality built as well as fairly priced. John

I had a lot of trouble with paint coming off of the cowgirl blades too. For the prices they charge you would think that the paint would last longer too

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Painted blades will chip/split pretty quickly on double 10s because the blades spend so much time whacking against each other. The Cowgirl was innovative, set the pace, and hit the stores as one of the first really huge spinners out there. I see the Company at shows all over the country, they do some rather expensive advertising, package the lures correctly, etc. Sure, there will be less expensive alternatives; this is a classic example of Branding/Marketing/ Promotion and supply/demand at work in a free market.

Posts: 75 Location: Aurora, IL. | While I enjoy using both cowgirls and DC 10's and have caught fish on both there are subtle differences in design. Overall the DC 10 is made with heavier components. Take for example the wire and clevis on the DC 10, both are of a heavier gauge than the cowgirl. Also it appears that the cowgirls blades are more cupped and although I havent weighed the blades it seems that the DC 10 blade may be a bit thicker. This I think creates different caracteristics in both baits. I believe the cowgirl blades rotate much faster than the DC 10 giving both baits a different sound. I'm sure theres an engineer out there that could give you a more specific explanation. Bottom line we all have our favorites and one might outperform the other on any given day. I havent tried the others you mentioned but am sure they too have subtle differences that make them great baits as well. Joe

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Re: Cowgirl blade paint chipping. I have one I put through the ringer last year and only a few minor chips. Overall the paint on these is great IMO. Some good models out there but like some point out, MM did a fantastic job marketing these and that is not cheap. I will always have one or two in my box but like many can't afford to buy more than that. Keep hearing good things about the DC and Figure8s too. Need to pick some of thsoe up in 2008. IMO you can never have enough double 10 bucktails! JMO but get soem thin medium and thick blades. They all have their place during fishing. I have from 0.02" up to 0.04" thick bladed bucktails in my box. Some run faster some run slower but deeper....

I think as long as there is two big blades creating that big pull your going to catch fish regardless of what kind of skirt there is on the back. I think all four brands mentioned are built well and will all catch fish equally. The double cowgirl skirts are cool to look at, but, I think the double 10s with a silicone skirt cast much easier and farther. Also, it is much easier to locate hooks and unhook fish at night when using a silicone skirt vs. flashabou. All of the major brands are putting out baits equal in quality, so I guess the only determining factor would be price. Why not try and get the most for your money? Steve
