How do you guys put foil on your baits? I have seen some and can figure some of it out but, some of the foil methods seem to have a lot of depth. Just curious how you do it and how you transfer the edges into the bait. Also, what material do you use? I have seen screen used, copper (thin), and what I assume to be aluminum foil but the thick stuff? Then I assume you texture it onto your bait backed with glue, paint and then rub off the high parts of the paint???

Just guessing as you can see.

Thank you in advance for any help. I want to make a few big Grunt baits in foil.

Been searching tackleunderground. Can't find anything. Will dive more into the posts tonight. Not much on this subject on the net.

Started playing last night and have something that looks good. Need to get it on some wood and put a coat of epoxy on it. I will take a few pics along the way and post them here when I am done for others...

Some use a heavy foil tape you would find at a home improvement center. I just texture aluminum foil. It can be done before it is put on the lure, or after. Embossing can be done before by putting a piece of netting under the foil. If it put on the bait first, a knurled handle of a tool can be rolled along the length. Most use a spray adhesive to apply the foil to the lure. I don't know if FatFingers from Ohio posts here but he has some incredible work. I epoxy the foil down. Then put a coat of ET over the body before I paint. Paint does not want to adhere to the foil. There were ALOT of posts regarding foiling on TU until a problem with the hosting company at the end of 06 resulted in alot of lost information that they are trying to recover. FatFingers posts there and I'm sure he would show you some of his work.

I hear you Grunts, frustrating technique. I gave it a shot after seeing one at Mil but I think I foiled myself more than I did the glider. I think I will leave this one to the awesome artists on this site. You guys are truely tallented and totally impress me......Awesome job.Doug Bradley
