Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | Any thoughts, comments, suggestions? When i used to race, I had a resume' of all of my racing accomplishments/ experiance. K-bob and I are doing one tourney this year, and if i could find sponsors to help us do more, it would be helpful. Edited by muskynightmare 3/26/2006 1:05 AM

Areas you specialize, what you can offer the company, what you hope to accomplish, how the company can benefit from you and also how you can benefit from them. Hopefully you can show something that will make you stand out from many of the others who are lobbying the mfr's for the same. Rob

Instead look to what you can do for the sponsor, and focus on that when you discuss your value to the company.

Posts: 56 Location: Appleton, WI | Obviously, Rob has to "SELL" himself to potential sponsors. Perhaps, I would be better at that for him, because I am in sales and I believe in him. But, he has rapport with many contacts that I do not. It is a simple phone call. I am happy to do it. I do it every day. I love it!

Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | Ok, maybe I should clarify: I am not looking to boost my financial security by getting sponsors, only to ease the burden of tournaments. I have been in sales (not to the extent that Lori is), but I do promote products and merchants that I believe in (anyone who has talked with me knows what I throw, what my favorite bait shop is, etc., whether they asked me or not. Check out your latest copy of Musky Hunter and turn to page 20, I believe in the products I mentioned). I would not ever endorse something that I do not believe in. There is enough prostitution in this world already. I was not raised like that, and have not raised my children like that either. I do have several stores, dealers, and bait companies in mind that I do believe in, and have patronized for years. I was looking for advice on aproaching those folks. I would never go up to, for example, the, um, I don't know, the 456789 bait company, who's baits I've never thrown to try and get free stuff, or ask for help with a tourney fee. Posts: 572 | It's like a naked woman.....exposure. Now, what company would pay for your muskie tournaments? Do you win every tournament? If so, you probably don't need a sponsor. If not, why pay for a looser? Seriously, you may be worth a sponsor, but it should be on exposure. Do you write articles or lectures on muskie fishing? Are you out where the public sees what you are doing? Just what is the exposure.....and is it positive towards the potential sponsor's business. It's return for the advertisement.... No wonder you are timid about contacting a small business to sponsor you. The return from their investment seems a little dim.....what if someone asked you to sponsor them??? What would you expect for your money? Basically, you need to contact large companies with money to spare that regardless of what you do it will result in positive exposure and an increase in sales. Bottom line...you have to sell.... Actually, I'm glad you asked the question. It gives me an idea.
