Posts: 395 Location: NW WI | If one has a choice, should you fish a lake that has not turned or one that has already turned over?? Me and Jr. might be facing that dillema next weekend, and I want to do the right thing!!! Jr. want s to fish Minocqua and Kawa, but I told him we need to watch the turn. Thanks! I Sr.

Posts: 686 Location: Tomahawk, Wisconsin | Going to have to get pretty downright chilly for either of those lakes to turn over by next weekend. Many lakes in the area are still holding in the mid 60's. Never know......... guarantee Big Tom won't be yet if that is in the tourney. My 2 cents....................

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The very small lake I was on yesterday wasn't even close to turning at 68 degrees surface, and it's 72 degrees outside right now. Here's the forecast for the rest of the week: ednesday, Oct 5 [Details/AccuPOP] Rhinelander, WI Weather Mostly cloudy with a couple of showers. Winds from the SW at 13 mph. High: 64° F RealFeel: 61° F Rhinelander, WI Weather Wednesday Night: An evening shower possible; otherwise, partly cloudy and seasonably cold. Winds from the NW at 13 mph. Low: 32° F RealFeel: 22° F Thursday, Oct 6 [Details/AccuPOP] Rhinelander, WI Weather Brisk and chilly with clouds breaking for some sun. Winds from the NNW at 15 mph. High: 49° F RealFeel: 39° F Rhinelander, WI Weather Thursday Night: Partly cloudy and cold. Winds from the NNW at 10 mph. Low: 30° F RealFeel: 23° F Friday, Oct 7 [Details/AccuPOP] Rhinelander, WI Weather Sunny to partly cloudy. Winds from the NNE at 13 mph. Posts: 395 Location: NW WI | Steve & all: That's what I'm worried about for this weekend. We live in Wausau, so can go to any number of lakes north of us (Vials and Oneida Cty's). I'm trying to get my 11 yr old his 1st 'ski, and want to maximize our time on the best water (s). I'm coming off of major surgery, so lot's of putting in and taking out (have a big fish n ski) is not inthe cards. Thanks to all for any help you can give!! Jim

Posts: 4266 | I always thought pre-turnover was better and that it took a while for the fish to get accustomed to the turn until a few years ago. I was fishing several lakes in Vilas, jumping around from gin clear lakes that turned filthy overnight to stained water lakes and driving myself nuts. The lake where I was staying turned over while I was there, and one day after the flip when the water was clearing, the fish went nuts! Everybody that I talked to was catching fish and losing fish and getting strikes on everything from bucktails to suckers. This lasted for a day and a half and then things calmed down again. The weather from anything but ideal, with NW winds and high pressure, but the fish went on a major binge. Haven't had it happen since, but I'll never forget how much fun it was to be on the water for those 2 days right after the lake turned. Beav

Posts: 239 Location: Madison, WI | If you’re worried about turnover try fishing the WI River. I'll be up in Price County Wed- Sun. If we don't like lake conditions due to turnover we will head for the river(s). Probably will anyway Good luck!
