thorne bros will do it.

if you are really ambitious you can easily do it yourself. I have done it to 3 rods and I am very satisfied. it is very easy

what do i need to do it, or is it better to just go to thorne? and is it strong enough, couldn't be part of the balnk so how is it re-inforced?

depends how much faith you have in yourself.

here is how I do it...

cut the last half inch of the handle off the rod
take a dowel (you can also use a blank from an old busted rod) and fit it inside the blank. this may take some sanding of the dowel. you will want to make sure that there is about 3-4 inches of dowel inside the blank.
use 2-ton epoxy to secure the dowel in the blank...let this cure for 24 hours.
get yourself some cork rings, drill them out to match the diameter of the dowel and use 2-ton epoxy to secure them to the dowel.
make sure you use a clamp of some sort to compress the cork so the space between the rings is minimal.
let the epoxy on the rings cure for 24 hours.
sand the cork you added to match the handle and add a butt cap of your choice.

I have added 3 inches to 4 different rods and I am very satisfied. Using this method you will get a very strong and durable extension. It doesnt look as pretty as what the guys at Thornes do, but I dont care about pretty and i can do them cheaper.

If you are only going to extend one or two rods and you live close enough, just take it to TB. But if you plan to do it to more than that you can do it cheaper at home. I dont live that close so it isnt that convenient for me to bring my rods in there. doing it myself, I am only without the rod for two days and it is ready to be fished again.
