| Does anyone have any experience trolling big baits with 80 pound test (double 13s, 13" believers, Hookers, etc), if so any issues? I upsized my big water tackle box for an upcoming trip, but if not necessary to spool 100# test/buy the additional line would prefer not to do so. (I know there a couple similar older topics). Thx in advance, |

Location: Walker, MN | I run 80# Sufix 832 for all of my trolling, I've never had an issue. I ran 100# when I used to run Power Pro and Cortland Master Braid as I didn't personally trust the 80 in those brands as much. |

| You can troll any size muskie bait on lighter than 80lb braid if wanted, I have 65 on several trolling setups..casting huge lures ya go to 100…I have a few dedicated pounder reels that have 100lb line, casting 12oz + lures is much different than trolling them and guys mainly go to 100 casting in case you backlash. |

| I often troll big baits on 50 lb mono. Why? Cause i have thousands of yards of it still laying around and have yet to lose a fish because of it. Occasionally very big fish. Often big, near boat stopping objects as well. Yesterday i hooked an island. Nothing lost. It’s all about your drag and leader. |

Location: Brighton CO. | It's the casting that's hard on the line. Now depending on what you are trolling swivels and line twist come into play. |

| Unlike Dick P, have never caught an island while trolling but have caught some big boulders. No problem with the 80# line. Drag set right or I might have snapped the rod.
Biggest thing is if you do snag a boulder is to check hooks and make sure the line was not damaged by the rocks, regardless of test. |
