| Hi,
Ive thrown bait casters for years, having hand issues and spring reels are much easier for me.
I've never had one for larger fish.
Any recommendations on rod/reel especially rod, 7 1/2 is as long as I can go.
I dont throw real heavy baits, Depth Rader, double blade muskie killers, I throw a top raider every once in a while,

| What's your price range? Big money- St. Croix premiers with Penn battle 4-5000 size. More economical, BPS 7ft. gold cup series spinning rods and check out Piscifun spinning reels in size 4-5000. K dawg |

Location: PA Angler | Check out to see what savage gear rods are out. I have one and really like it. As for reel I run a cabaelas salt striker in class 8. I bought it when I was in my saltwater days but don’t really go now so I use it for Muskie. It works but I wouldn’t recommend it plus I don’t care for cabelas anymore. Okuma has some nice ones and I would think a class 5 or 6 would be better. |

Location: Athens, Ohio | I used a Penn reel and a St. Croix rod - works better with some baits better than bait casters as you can start the bait towards you just before it hits shallow water. PM me if you want the specs, I might even sell the rig one day.

FWIW I have a 7' Cabella's "Tourney trail" IM8 musky spinning rod coupled with a Shimano Stradic 4000 with 40lb line on it. Works really well for this old boy and I would certainly buy the set-up again if I lost it! |

Location: Brighton CO. | In the 70's my dad used to fish with his surf rod (8 1/2-9 foot rod) big spinning reel with 20 pound mono. kinda crude but it worked. He would cast a half mile and have a fish hit on the end of his cast with the mono and he would lose his fish. |

Location: West Central WI | Mike, are your hand issues related to how you hold a rod when you cast? Or, is it related to holding the rod and reel while you're reeling in a bait. Or, is it the hand you use to reel in the line? Depending on your answer, there may be other options not mentioned so far. |
