I spend 90% of my time bass fishing and never really targeted muskies before but got the urge for some reason. Thought it might be cool to get my first muskie on a bait I made. So I came up with a 5” 2.9” squarebill crankbait (my inner bass fisherman). Dives to about 7-8” on a cast in my kayak. My first muskie trip before sunlight I toss it a few feet from the shore to test the action and see a nice muskie through the light of my headlamp follow and hit it a foot from the beach. Tossed it again and it hit one more time but didn’t connect. That was enough to get me hooked.

Nice bait! The muskie may not have gotten hooked but you sure are now. Keep on building.

I started out just making jigs, then I took a half inch dowel and cut it on angles about 2" long put a couple of hooke on and on the very first cast I caught a sm bass now 20 years I am still making lures, hook, line and sinker its got me love it.

Thanks a lot guys. Been out a couple times since with no luck just saw a few surfacing. I made a 6” vertical jigging bait that I broke off on my first trip. Got it unstuck from some submerged trees a few time and an anchor rope once with the 44mag but it must have gotten wrapped around a branch and the 44mag snapped the line. Next bait is going to be a 6” glider then some inline spinners for the first time. I’m all in on getting my first musky on a homemade this fall.
