| I'm no biologist but isn't it true that female skis grow faster, longer and wider than the males on average? Can anything be done to raise females instead of males for stocking purposes or at the least increase the ratio of females vs males? |

Location: Hayward, Wisconsin | It was, I believe, Ohio State University that did some work on just that idea. By heat shocking the eggs they hoped to create all female muskies. Not sure what ever became of that study or if it worked. |

| Shocking the eggs creates triploid fish which are sterile, I'm not familiar with the technique creating all or more females. |

Location: Indiana | I don't know what will become of it, but the Indiana DNR discussed the possibility of only stocking females just this winter. They didn't elaborate on how/when/if the budget supports trying it, but it was one topic in a long list of ideas they wanted to try.
They are looking into the genetics of the fish in our lakes to make sure we aren't creating problems by stocking so many fish from such a small source of 'parents'. There may be interesting things to come from Indiana DNR. |

Location: oswego, il | Interesting, if say the lake only has females, do they drop their eggs since there isn't a spawning ritual? Since the rough sex doesn't happen, how many years will it add to longevity? |
