My first legal musky - I thought I was going to be billy badass and grab the fish by the gill plate. She split my thumb long ways through the joint in a 4 inch "S" shaped cut all the way down to the ligaments. That was the day I learned to never put my thumb over the top snout. I didn't know those razor blades sometimes poke thru or ride on the outside of the snout all together. However it was the day that I caught the bug and the rest is history ......

Have not had one try and bite me yet. I did have a dogfish grab my thumb and not let go.

I've caught lots of those on the fly rod. Didn't even touch one.

Mean mouth and dentures and I've heard they clamp down really, really hard! That must've hurt like he!!...

Never had one bite, but had a then barely legal 30"er, flop just as I grabbed for it.. One barb of the treble that was already protruding from its lip impaled itself in my index finger, attaching me to the fish until I could get back to the cabin, and get some help.. I faired better than the fish, got a tetanus shot, and fished out the week with no effects.. This was back when you whacked a legal fish tho, and it didn't fare as well.. I'll say it was edible, but never had the desire to eat one since..

"Very" early in my musky career, in the excitement of catching a musky, I made the mistake of using my hand as a boca grip. Punctured my thumb to the bone. Needless to say, I never did that again.

Never happened with a muskie, but I swear pike try to bite you on purpose. Was releasing about a 28"er, when it spun around, came out of the water, clamped on to my wrist and started to thrash around. Scratched up my watch pretty good and put some holes in my sleeve, but that was it. I'd have been a mess if I wasn't wearing a watch.
