Posts: 770 | Hey everyone, i have expanded my fishing territory from shallow stained wi lakes and rivers to deeper clear water mn lakes. Im having a hard time figuring out the depths that i should be looking for muskies. I realize that the can be anywhere between the thermalcline and the surface but is there a depth that you generally expect to find fish in these deeper lakes? Or common patterns relating to depth? Im fishin white bear lake for the time being. Any help would be greatly appreciated Edited by T3clay 6/23/2017 9:25 PM

Posts: 1209 | If the outside weed edge that has more than 4' tall weeds is in 23' I'll fish that. Low light conditions I start inside edge and if not producing or it get bright I'll push out slowly. If nothing I'll zig zag in and out till I find something. Don't be afraid to fish the top 4' in 30' of water.

Posts: 34 | Can someone please define a weed edge please. Is it visible weeds going to a steep drop off? Submerged weeds? I havent chased them for too long but just came back from a week on one of the Vilas county lakes and the number of fish we saw over weeds in 10 ft was amazing. No defined weed edge. The greener the better. Once we saw a branch of coon tail we fished and fish apeared. Just big weed flat, no change in depth.

Posts: 34 | Tried to figure out the structure using Navionics app but what map shiwed had nothing to do with depth. Constant 9 to 11 feet of water. Please chime in cuz it got me all over the place as far as whole deep weed edge theory and the only place it would make sence was parked every 50 yards or so stretching through the middle of the lake Edited by Unionski 6/24/2017 3:37 AM

Posts: 770 | The weed edge is where the weeds stop, doesnt matter if they are grown to the top or a few feet under the surface.

Posts: 1209 | Where I fish there is zero weeds shallower than 10' it is to gravelly with no nutrients/ to much boat traffic. To the shore side of this is the inside edge. Then the weeds are surfaced normally till 15' then they don't quite reach the surface and continue growing to 23' where they stop growing for lack of sunlight to get started, this is the outer edge. Tools like humminbird depth highlight makes this aproch fool proof.
