i just got my first pounder rod. it was repaired (rod tip broke off and new one put on) and only 50 bucks. how do you guys like it? and what is a good reel for it?

As mentioned the Tranx 500 is the top of the line.
another smaller option is the new Tranx 400, but only time will tell if the long term durability matches the 500.

If you want something a bit cheaper, look for a used, toro 60 (beast, S, NACL or the old model) , or calcutta 400D or TE.

ID look into the Revo rocket made for big rubber this is what I have on my Custom Predator Rod I use for Pounders and Love the set up

Another option (lower cost) is a Daiwa Saltist. You can get them here used at times for a very good price.

They do not have spool brakes and can be difficult throwing lighter stuff, but that should not be a problem throwing larger rubber baits.

Your gonna hear em all here. Another option yet, it's probably the cheapest and a solid choice, would be a Daiwa Lexa 400. The 6.1 is gonna bring in a decent amount of line for a rubber reel. They are beefy, and you can find em brand new on eBay for like $165

The Musky Innovations Pro series Monster Mag is a great pounder rod, you will like it.
I use Shimano 400B's on mine spooled up with 100# Hi-Seas Grandslam braid.
Caught a lot of fish with that setup.
