I've been waiting for a super fish to pop up out of the river. I definately didn't expect it to be a tiger. Simply amazing.

Congrats Dusty!! Likely the 3rd or 4th largest Tiger ever caught...and it wasn't even "legal"!

And by the way, the current WR Hybrid was 52 1/4" long and had a 25 1/4 inch girth and weighed 51 pounds 3 ounces. Both it and the 2nd place fish too were boundary waters fish...albeit the other side of WI.

Muskie regards,

Hey Larry, Can you provide any additional information on the 1st and 2nd place tigers? If I recall correctly, they were both low 50 pound class fish caught out of Lac Vieux Desert, and both by women. Anyways, I'll take a "3rd" place fish any day - what a pig.

Great catch. There is something about a Tiger that makes them something different. For me a 45" tiger would get a replica. Now add 3 1/2" and many pounds. It may be tough to make this replica but I would guess that someone would want to make it. That fish is a fish of Millions of casts. One that I would guess will stick in the memory for a very long time.

thats because, thats what a real 28.5 inch girth looks like...most guys will never see that kind of girth...even if its posted.

The top Tiger was caught by John Knobla from Lac Vieux desert in 1919 and was the WR "muskie" for 10 years (hybrids unknown at that time). I'd bet that the total length given was "fork length", a measurement that Field & Stream used for several years.

The second place Tiger was 56 inches long x 26 1/2 inch girth and too was caught from Lac Vieux desert in 1950 by Delores Ott Lapp.

Off to try and catch my own giant...see ya in awhile.

Based upon the measurements this should be the heaviest hybrid ever taken. The current WR hybrid isn't even close based upon the reported measurements.

With a girth of only 25.25" the current WR hybrid could not possibly weigh 51 lbs. 3 oz. unless it was filled with something much denser than flesh or water. This is true regardless of how the length measurement was taken.

Status based upon 800 weight formula (Girth x Girth x Length / 800 = Weight)

1# 28.5" x 48.5"... 49.24 lbs.

2# 26.5" x 56"... 49.16 lbs.

3# 25.25" x 52.25"... 41.64 lbs. (Current WR)

Proof current WR are bunk. With the current WR weight for Tigers 51# Must have ate a 10 pound loon or two.

It was said in one of the above posts that the current WR hybrid was likely measured only to the fork of the tail meaning the total length was actually about 55" instead of 52.25". Even if this were true the fish would still fall far short of the claimed weight of 51 lbs. 3 oz. In this case the 25.25" x 55" fish would have an 800 formula weight of 43.83 lbs. compared to the 28.5" x 48.5" at 49.24 lbs.

The current WR hybrid is obviously a hoax based upon it's own measurements. If it had eaten a loon or two it's girth would surely be over 25.25".

Actually, as a taxidermist I've done several Tiger muskies and they are simple modifications to existing pure musky blanks/replicas. In fact, the differences are SO minute I don't even charge extra to modify one. Just an FYI...
