I use my record 50 on my 6-6 St Croix rod mainly for twitching or top water baits. At the end of last season it started slipping (let line out when it shouldn't) a bit when I'd twitch or jerk a lure. Not every time, but it was getting progressively worse. Any ideas on what the problem is? Before I take it apart I'd like to have an idea of what I should be looking for. Thanks for and input!

I would send it back to Pure Fishing in Spirit Lake, IA. I've sent several reels there over the years and at least for me, they have either been repaired or replaced within a week with no charge.

Any chance you are using braided line without mono backing or some tape to hold it to the spool?

Yeah maybe I will just sent it there. $22 + parts + s/h isn't too bad.

It's taped down braid so I dint think it could be the entire spool slipping, but I'll double-check.

Thanks for the input!

Your "at least for me" part is correct. I just got my Toro back today - $67, service/cleaning and 2 bearings replaced which included a 40% discount on the bearings. I personally would not be sending back there again. I thought the "source" would be best. Turns out its not even close.

Pikemaster is the way to go, he was booked up to far out for me to send it.

May be a kick lever problem. I know certain series of the Revo's had an issue with that. I changed out one of mine a few seasons back. It's not easy, but it's do-able. The #*^@ springs will make you want to shoot yourself. But I believe the cost of the part was around $11.

U have a Bad A/R Bearing, if reel is under a year old send it back to ABU
Keep a thumb on the spool when ripping baits and on hook sets that will help.
