Posts: 1536 Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | Was at Thornes tonight after work. Talked to Bill, their custom rod builder. Fell in love with a 7'4" heavy action Diamondback. Man what a nice piece of equipment. I do believe I will have to order one of these in the near future. Any body else out there tried one of these rods? I have been hearing good things about them but have never tried one. Any one know how they hold up to serious use? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Posts: 58 Location: Edina, MN | I have 2 and will never buy an off the shelf rod again. If you know what you want and like in a rod, it doesn't get much better. The guys at Thorne Bros will make sure you are't disappointed. Actually not a lot more $ than other high end off the shelf rods. The lighter weight and action to match your personal style save on your body, allow you to work baits properly and, for me, have resulted in more fish in the boat.

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | M1, I have 7'6" DB ex-heavy jerk-bait rod. It was made from a 7'4" blank with 2"added to the butt. Great rod so far. I opted for the titanium guides for even more weight reduction. Not sure if it was worth the the extra 180, but it will probably make a difference when casting for 12 hrs. I justified this rod due to the fact that we are a different breed of fishermen. Who else spends that much time slinging that size baits for that long and many times come up empty handed? And "hey" it's got my name on it!..............................................RAZE

Posts: 2089 | Mike, The rods are awesome.Bill just sent me a Sage 579 of his brothers for comparison. I may be nuts , but I like the DB better.I have 2 of them now and still have 2 Sage 569's. The Sages are awesome as you know but the DB is something else.I agree w/ RAZE and the guide issue. I figured I was going to a longer rod,so I would try to cut as much weight as possible with the titanium/gold cermat guides. It's easy to rationalize the cost too. Just ask how much a new Matthews bow is or a Benelli Super Black Eagle.I don't hunt at all so I only have one addiction. Couldn't afford 2. Steve

![]() | Just purchased my first one, there will be a second purchase shortly. When you hold a St. Croix Avid in your left hand and a Diamondback in your right, the difference is very noticable. I am done with St. Croix, period... The last five rods I purchased all became loose in the reel seats and they are all now electrical taped... Their cusotmer service said mail them in, along with 8 dollars per rod and they will fix or replace... Cost of shipping and insurance was over 30 dollars. $70.00 versus electrical tape? The Diamondback price is comparable to the Avid... You get what you pay for...

Posts: 391 | I have the medium 7'2". I use it to throw bucktails and twithbaits and also works great for jigging. I love it and fished the poop out of it the last half of the season. Held up great! Wondered how everyone likes the heavier models for jerkbait fishing? thanks Kly

Posts: 155 Location: North Metro | I am sold on the DB and own 2 of them. They are certainly worth the money when you consider the quality and warranty. These rods are made by very caring and intelligent hands. Excellent quality and lightness... Sweetness and light... what could be better? Edited by Cast-n-Blast 2/15/2003 8:52 PM
