The line guide on my calcutta 400B is now defective for a 2nd year in a row. I had it fixed between the fishing seasons and here I am with the same problem again. So, instead of sending it to Shimano and loosing it for the last month of fishing, I would like to know if there is a simple way to fix it? I recorded and uploaded a very small video showing what it is doing:

I tried to rescrew the pawl cap without changing anything and the work shaft seems fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Call Shimano parts and order a Line Guide Pawl part #BNT 0042 cost about $3.00 each plus shipping, U will have one in less then a week. Just unscrew the sliver cap and replace with the small washer. U must be hitting the line guide with your finger ??? or ice or dirt will cause the pawl to fail also. good luck

FWIW, I like to keep a couple of spare pawls in my boat, I have both Abus and Shimanos so I need a few of each. I go through usually 1 or 2 a year and hate for a reel to go down.

I would order several pawls plus a worm gear that the pawl slips into. I also agree that you are getting ice/dirt in there that is making the part wear out quickly. Being able to tear down the reel to clean the worm gear every couple of months would increase longevity.

Good to know, thanks for the tip, will definitly order more than just one as it won't impact shipping price.

Any online video showing how to properly tear the reel down? Not my strong side but would like to learn this as it could definitly help on the long term.

Shimanos web site has some step by step still photos showing the basics. Otherwise I'm sure there are some homemade YouTube vids on the subject.
