Posts: 7 | MELFA MOPES - 7/13/2013 2:43 PM It seems fresh water boat manufacturers don't mention deadrise anymore. What is the transom deadrise of Ranger's , Lund's and Tuffy's deep Vs? Numbers please? I think less emphasis is put on deadrise numbers for freshwater fishing boats (especially multi-species hulls) since they don't directly convey overall ride. Low speed stability, high speed handling (smooth and rough water), dry ride/spray control - are what matters to most folks. While transom deadrise has a larger effect on rough water tracking, overall hull design, including bow entry, hull flare, chine design, strake placement, running pads, notched transoms, etc. - all interact to create optimum performance and "dry ride" comfort. Especially in fiberglass boat hulls. But that's just my $.02

Posts: 82 Location: Cottage Grove, Mn | I find this post and lack of reply's puzzling. I have had several boats; a MFG, a Starcraft, a Meyers, A Tuffy Marauder for 17 years (S Worral was quite helpful when I rebuilt and sold it. A forum member purchased it last year.) and then a Lund 1900 Roach tiller for 10 years. I have fished out of those and Rangers, Bullets, Contenders, Parker and American Marine. Asking a question concerning deadrise hardly seems inappropriate in a Muskie Boat forum. In Fisherman used to detail semi, modified and deep V numbers in their yearly articles about boat setup. . Presently Warrior , Yarcraft , Allison and several other builders still list deadrise degrees. For years, deep Vs were described as having 20 to 26 degrees of deadrise. Modified and semi hulls were less.... Deeper deadrise most certainly is necessary for smoother riding. It is sad that sales babble has taken over for fact. One boat is crushing waves. Rivets fall out , cheaper is better, sprayed chopped glass is great. If you manufacture a boat with a 12 or 18 degree deadrise , say so. Why call your product a deep V or detail a boats dry ride when all fishing boats have a wet ride some days. Dennis MELFA MOPES

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Tuffy offers 9 hulls. Ranger offers several, so does Skeeter and Lund. Each design is different. Chine design is also a factor in ride, how dry the boat is, etc. The running bottom design is also critical.

Posts: 82 Location: Cottage Grove, Mn | Hello Steve, You have been working your butt off in the boating industry for 30 years? I trusted you and your company. I have been fortunate to have fished my Tuffy from Lake Seminole to Toledo Bend to LOTW to the ST Lawrence. It was out on Michigan, Erie, Ontario and Green Bay. Always dry.......NO. Never sunk or turned over. I had to watch weather carefully, but was only really concerned once, and I always took my sons or wife with me. I realize you have numerous chines, reverse chine, pads, flared bows and extended transoms....... But when I buy another boat I'll buy a deep V . Hopefully it will have over 20 degrees of deadrise. I'm hoping for a Tuffy or a Warrior Center Console with the Console moved forward. Perhaps 23', with the ability to put a big dodger up so one could fish when things were downright awful with some comfort. Perhaps you can PM me Tuffy's deep V deadrise? Dennis

Posts: 5874 | Numbers aren't going to mean anything, if the ride doesn't suit you. Pretty sure you could arrange a ride in just about any boat made, in just about any conditions, given the weather when you take that ride. A demo ride would tell you much more than a number that even the boat mfg's don't deem as important.
