Picked up and older ranger and want to add rails or a track system for rod holders. Do you just screw them on or do you have to get under the gunnel and add a plate for strength?

You should check with Ranger.

depending on model it is pretty tough to get under a gunnel on a Ranger....pre tap holes and use stainless self tapping screws. u should have rubber in between base of rails and fiberglass...and if it makes you feel better use a little lock tight!

pre tapping and lock tight are enough to hold them down? It's a 93 681c and I can't seem to find any way to access the under the gunnels.

i installed an extra set of rails on my 99 ranger 3-4 years ago and that is all i did - pre drill hole slightly smaller than screw and it will "bite down" pretty good when you tighten it up I personally didnt use lock tite but i always go around at least once a year and check, retighten if necessary to make sure they didnt back out a half turn or so from bouncing around - never had a problem- and that is how ther factory rails were installed as well- hope this helps
